Respiratory Symptoms Relief

Functions of Respiratory System

The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body. The respiratory system does this through breathing. When we breathe, we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This exchange of gases is the respiratory system’s means of getting oxygen to the blood.

The process of the respiratory system taking air into the lungs is respiration, or inhalation, and the process of breathing out is expiration or exhalation. In addition to gas change, the respiratory system has the functions of metabolic, transportation and regulation of the body.

Our breathing that the respiratory system provides us is so vital to life that it happens automatically. Of all this breathing and vital supply to the cells could not happen without the respiratory system.

Organs Consist of Respiratory System

The respiratory system includes the nose, nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and the lungs. All of them have different functions and play important roles in the respiratory system. The lungs may be the most important organs of the respiratory system.

The muscle located below the lungs named the diaphragm, is not in the group of organs for the respiratory system but the diaphragm muscle also plays important roles in the process of respiration and adds to the functions of the respiratory system.

During inhalation, the diaphragm muscle contracts acting like a vacuum that helps in pulling air into the lungs. During exhalation, the diaphragm muscle relaxes that helps in forcing the air out of the lungs.

Respiratory System Disorders

Respiratory system disease or disorders a person may suffer are asthma, bronchitis, common cold, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), emphysema, influenza, Lung cancer, Pneumonia, Sinusitis, and Tuberculosis.

Besides the contributing factors that physical injury, infections, viruses, allergies and diseases could impair the normal functions of the respiratory system, also the diaphragm muscle, intercostals muscle and many other muscles, fascia and soft tissues could cause the dysfunctions of the respiratory system.

By treating the problems with soft tissues, which they are in supporting the respiratory system could help normalize the functions of respiratory system and relieve many of the discomfort symptoms that affect the respiratory system you may experience.
