What is Allergy?

Allergy is concern a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system.  Allergy reaction may occur due to the immune system reacting to substances in the environment.

The immune system normally protects the body from harmful agents such as bacteria and toxins.  An allergic reaction may be the body’s way of responding to an “invader” for someone but for others their body takes as normal harmless substances.

A substance that causes a reaction is called an allergen. Examples of allergens include pollens, dust mite, molds, dander, and many foods. Allergy reactions could develop at any age.
