What is Prostate?

 Mens Health

The prostate is a single gland about the size and shape of a chestnut; it located just below the bladder and encircles the part of the urethra, which is the tube that empties the bladder.  The prostate gland is part of male’s reproductive system.

The prostate gland secretion accounting for one third of semen volume, it plays a role in activating sperm, and enters the prostatic urethra via several ducts.  When the prostatic smooth muscle contracts during ejaculation it prevents retrograde (backward) flow of semen into bladder.

Because of the location of prostate gland, the symptoms of prostate problem tend to be associated with the bladder and urethra that could cause urinary problems or sexual dysfunctions.

What is Prostatitis?

Prostatitis is described as inflammation or infection of the prostate gland.

Acute prostatitis more likely effected by bacteria, may present a chill, fever, shakes, also there may be increased frequency, urgency of urination or dysuria (painful or difficulty urination).

Chronic prostatitis without infection is where there is recurrent pelvis, testicle, prostate or rectal pain without evidence of infection.  There may be difficulty or painful urination or sexual dysfunctions.

Asymptomatic prostatitis is when men are not aware they have prostatitis because there are no subjective or noticeable symptoms.  More often it is discovered when they see physicians who find evidence of inflammation through examination of prostatic fluid.

Prostatitis Symptoms

Chronic or nonbacterial prostatitis is a condition that produces much suffering with symptoms.  Besides that, more often troubling to men that have the physical symptoms are depression, anxiety, disturbed sleeping and discouragement. This may come from their helpless and catastrophic thinking because their physicians have little to offer, and the fear of potential having cancer or some undiagnosed disease.

Common symptoms of chronic prostatitis include urethral pain, testicle pain, post ejaculate pain, post urination pain, post bowel movement pain, groin, hip, pelvis, leg and coccygeal pain, genital or rectal area pain, burning or tingling sensations, weakened urine steam, urination frequency or urgency, sexual dysfunctions or sickening feeling.

Causes of Prostatitis

Chronic Nonbacterial Prostatitis presents the largest number of cases of men diagnosed with prostatitis.  The causes of prostatitis vary; however, the symptoms described above may or may not be related or be produced by prostatitis.  Sometimes the problems with prostatitis may be caused by the pelvis dysfunction, pelvis muscular structure problems, pelvic fascia restrictions, tighten pelvis muscles, discrepancy of the legs, life style, dietary problems, anxiety or tensions occurred in life.

A new name being adopted or arises for the chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, it is called Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS).  This indicated that the prostate may or may not the cause all those symptoms mentioned above but the pelvis problems.
