Bloating Relief

About Bloating

Bloating is the sensation of increased abdominal pressure, and may refer to abdominal or stomach bloating.

Bloating creates a feeling that the abdomen is larger than normal, even though its actual size may not necessary increase.  As such, people may experience bloating with or without any distension of the abdomen.

The symptoms of bloating include a feeling of fullness or tightness of the abdomen, as well as varying degrees of abdominal pain, discomfort, stomach growling, belching, flatulence, and other unpleasant symptoms.

Bloating also may be a symptom itself of discomfort caused by other problems.  Though it may feel like only the stomach is bloated, bloating may be related to problems with other organs or tissues in the abdominal cavity, pelvis cavity, or even caused by distal problems.

Causes of Bloating

Causes of bloating include many potential factors, including diet, food allergy, irritable bowel syndrome, lactose intolerance, reflux, as well as other stomach problems.

Causes of bloating in many cases may relate to problems with the muscular system, the fascial system, and other soft tissues – all of which are often overlooked.

Causes of bloating may also be by an inadequate intake of water, because water benefits the body by aiding digestion and supporting bodily functions.  The consumption of fatty foods and dairy products may contribute to abdominal cramps and/ or gas, and hence bloating.  Gas and bloating may also indicate indigestion.

Anxiety may be another cause of abdominal or stomach bloating, and may worsen due to increased levels of stress.   Situations that disrupt or tamper with a person’s daily routine or diet – for example, during travel – may result in or increase symptoms of bloating and / or gas, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.

Other possible causes of bloating including air swallowing (often due to eating too quickly), alcohol consumption, constipation, diarrhea, dysmenorhea (painful menstruation or menstruation cramps), digestive disorders, gas-producing food, overeating, irritable bowel syndrome, and other muscular problems.
